When I went home to the province, I was so happy that my brother and sister-in-law thought of using our family's vintage Coleman lantern to decorate their beautiful porch. The lantern lights up at night, but it no longer uses the kerosene mantle that we used to spark up when we were little. Now, it uses a modern LED light bulb, connected to an electric outlet.
The Coleman kerosene lantern brings up a lot of memories of the good old days... when life was much simpler. Our barrio (now we call it barangay) for many years had no electricity. Lack of electricity is an inconvenience, but it has its own advantages, mainly lack of access to the evils of modern world.
